Ohio

So we returned from our journey late last night.

We are in Kent now trying to re-organize our lives and prepare for our next move.

I am going to over the next day or so try and get all of the lost photos on the blog as well as tell you what it is you will be looking at. Also Joey promises to retroactively blog about the trip also since he proved to be the laziest blogger =o)

Here we are last night at Joey's folks house in Kent... 8,157 miles later...

there's nothing that the road cannot heal

We have reached over 6,000 miles on the bike. Every one worth it. We have hit some crazy weather and strange situations but we really are having the most incredible time. After Phoenix we headed north intending to get to Flagstaff but we heard news of a storm headed our way so we went to Arcosanti. Arcosanti is an incredible artists community 2 miles outside of Cordes Junction near Mayer, AZ about 80 miles or so south of Flagstaff. We walked around Arcosanti for a bit.. you should check this place out online if you aren't familiar with it already..

www.Arcosanti.org

It was too late for us to camp there (you have to be registered by five and we didn't know where the tent sites were so we couldn't even just go for it) so we were leaving and headed up some stone stairs and we saw a snake and it was huge.. I have never really been afraid of snakes until this one started rattling! oh and hey, guess what.. rattlesnakes are really very fast! So we grabbed onto each other and had to fly up the stairs next to it and run accross the way to the bike and we took off like scared little babies. We ended up having to camp about 2 miles away at a weird motel RV joint where we basically had a small patch of dead grass to sleep on.. but we were still aware of the fact we were in the desert and there were still rattlesnakes, scorpions, etc. So we got a couple of beers and sat at this stone table next to an 'arcade' outside of the motel and saw bats chasing moths and the biggest slowest beetles I've ever seen! Eventually we felt tough enough to sleep and we got about four hours in before the sun started to rise and we took off north.. we drove over 700 miles that day to get to the Salt Lake City area (Ogden) and spend time with my dear friend David Thomas Owen IV. we stayed up with him until three had a couple of beers and talked about old times and the trip and just our lives in general. We had a great night sleep in the guest room of the gorgeous new house he built with his lovely girfriend Jeni, their new black lab Bella and cat Mr. Buddies. The next morning Dave made breakfast and coffee Jeni went for bagels and we had breakfast hung out and walked Bella in a lovely park nearby. We ran into some drunk men fishing in the river one named Al who begged me to go dancing with him soon, then proceded to try and hook onto my tank top while repeatedly dropping the cigarette he had lit but wasn't even smoking from his lips.

Then Dave took off to give guitar lessons at a local music shop and we took off for Park City. I love Park City it is a beautiful very affluent mountain town that has hosted winter Olympics as well as the Sundance film festival each year. After cruisng around there we were east bound (sigh) again.

Tonight we are in Mayer, UT and tomorrow we will be in the Denver/Boulder area. Today was a beautiful ride through the mountains. Joey said it was his favorite ride yet. I enjoyed it but I still can't choose a favorite we have experienced so many incredible places.. just one beautiful destination after another..

hot hot heat

So we are in Phoenix right now and it is very, very hot...even for a 'dry heat' the show last night was great at a little coffee shop called Trunk Space. Teddy and Ambur took us in and let us stay at their home with their family A pug named Aby, a pom, chiuaua called Murphy who is blind but incredible, and three cats Pepper, Arlo (blackbeard) and Bisby. We took the dogs on a walk and I made a cat toy out of my headband and some feathers for them and we had a great time playing with them and laughing.

Yesterday we spent the afternoon in Tucson (Vail) with my Uncle Matt, Aunt Shell and cousin Dillon. We swam in the pool and Joey dove for a rock over and over again, then we had pizza and visited and had a great time before we took off for Phoenix.

Monday was crazy leaving San Diego and heading for Arizona, we caught a really scary lightning storm which forced us to pull over and camp in the desert. We didn't see any wild desert beasts, just a ton of baby bunnies. I wish we were able to update this blog properly as we go but the "smart phone" windows mobile device we are using is proving to be more and more useless everyday so for that we are sorry.

more soon..

L.A. to San Diego

Yesterday we spent the day with our dear friend Donny and some old and new friends (everyone happened to be an Ohio native) in Los Angeles. We went to a couple different places for cocktails. We had a great time and got up early (yet slowly) this morning and had some breakfast and headed to San Diego to Donny's place. Which is incredibly beautiful located in the Northpark neighborhood. We showered and hung out at his place lazily laying in a pillow pile on the floor and watched James Bond for a bit then went to the beach had a couple cocktails, walked around on the shore, went to the market and came back and Donny grilled a fabulous meal.. we are leaving soon to go to the Soda Bar for the show!

lazy saturday morning in Long Beach

Last night the show at Viento Y Agua was nice the other acts were cute and breezy. It was nice to sit inside and down ice waters and iced coffee's after sitting in terrible L.A. rushhour traffic in the hot hot heat. As soon as we got to Long Beach we jumped in the ocean to cool off. We met Courtney last night, a friend of a friend from back in Ohio. Her and her roommates were kind enough to let us crash on an a mattress made of air in the living room. We have spent the morning showering, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes in the back yard. I threw some darts and thought of Macklin and Wednesday nights in Tremont. We are meeting up with Donny soon who wants to take us out and show us a goodtime in the city of angels.

hair blowin' in the hot wind, time hangin' from a clothes pin

We spent yesterday cruising down hwy 1.. we stopped off in Santa Cruz and Capitola and spent the afternoon with Aaron who rode with us sixty or so miles. For those of you who have driven down the coast you know how beautiful hwy 1 is, but I am here to tell you it is different on the bike, instead of viewing the scenery you become a part of it. It is elemental. We spent my birthday evening in Big Sur we camped right on the pacific. And we had an amazing time and didn't have to spend a dime thanks to the kindness of strangers.. We awoke this morning early and had coffee at our tent (provided again by the kindness of strangers) and hit the road, we have some miles to make today, we are going to Long Beach. I hope we get there in good time because I'm just dying to get in that ocean!

On another note Joey left his cell phone on the curb outside a Chevron about 150 miles north of San Francisco.. so if you have been trying to reach him forget it you will have to call me instead.. If you don't have my number just email me @ ilikethatbike@gmail.com
